Include It In Your Diet. This Food Prevents ‘Brain Shrinkage’

Increase its daily intake, your brain will thank you.

Nowadays, more and more people are diagnosed with dementia, which represents a serious problem for our society. Moreover, the number of people suffering from this disease is predicted to almost triple in the next three decades.

However, there is a solution that could help us reduce the risk of dementia – through a diet rich in magnesium. The Spring portal wrote more about it .

Foods rich in magnesium, such as nuts and spinach, could help reduce the risk of dementia, according to research. People with higher magnesium intakes were found to have lower levels of brain shrinkage and aging. The study involved more than 6,000 people in Great Britain who filled in questionnaires about their diet over a 16-month period.

Food matters

Those who ate more magnesium-rich foods — including seeds and whole grains, leafy green vegetables and legumes — had younger brain ages, according to the researchers.

What to include in the menu?

Increasing magnesium intake from 350 mg per day to 550 mg was associated with a one-year reduction in brain age at age 55. Foods rich in magnesium are, for example:

  • peanuts
  • cashew nuts
  • Chia seeds
  • potatoes
  • brown rice
  • yogurt
  • porridge
  • milk

The growth in the number of people diagnosed with dementia is caused both by the aging of the population and by an unhealthy lifestyle. However, getting the right micronutrients from natural foods is usually better and more effective than supplementing your diet with nutritional supplements.

As you can see, adding magnesium-rich foods to our diet can have a big impact on our overall health. Eating a varied and balanced diet that contains enough magnesium may be the key to keeping our brains vital.

You don’t have to limit yourself to the list of foods above – try experimenting with different recipes and flavor combinations to find what works best for you.
